Over the years, a lot of people have thrown out items that they believe are garbage. As the old saying goes, one guy’s trash is another man’s treasure. This has proven to be time and time again. People have managed to create many cool items and trinkets using salvaged materials.
Just recently, a Maine farmhouse as built using such materials and it has gained a lot of attention from people all around the world. Below, you’re going to learn more about this farmhouse and the items used to complete its construction.
In this day and age, a lot of people find it unfathomable to believe that a house could be built with salvaged materials. This couldn’t be further from the truth. More and more people are beginning to understand the importance of keeping the world clean. One of the best ways to do that is by taking older materials and using them for something good. Surprisingly, the Maine farmhouse was actually built in 2018. So, it is not something out of the past.
Now, you should learn a little more about the materials used to create the farmhouse. The house was actually built by the Caleb Johnson Studio. The company obtained materials from several unique sources. For instance, some of the materials were recovered from an older farmstead. Others were acquired from a modern teardown. Ultimately, the materials were combined to create the Maine farmhouse that is now causing a stir around the world. A Kennebunk family decided that the old farmhouse and barn on their property wasn’t suitable.
Those buildings were torn down and the materials were used for the creation of the new builds.
Cabinetry And Fixtures
The cabinets and fixtures were salvaged as well. This includes the gorgeous farmhouse light fixtures that have gained so much popularity online. These items were taken from a midcentury home, which was originally positioned in Weston, Massachusetts. By utilizing these materials, the team managed to create a modern farmhouse that is oozing with personality. If they used new materials, there is a good chance that the property wouldn’t have been as charming as it is today. They owe a great deal to the amazing materials that were salvaged from other buildings.
There is no doubt that the home’s roof is one of its most important attributes. With that being said, the company went above and beyond to ensure that this farmhouse was equipped with an effective roof. In the end, they went with a steel roof that was coated with galvalume. It should be noted that the roof is unpainted. This provides the house with a more modern finish.
Finally, you should know that the interior of the house contains an abundance of unfinished elements. Look at the stairs, doors and columns. When you do, you’re going to see that these items have been left unfinished. In a regular house, this would be unwelcome. This house is different though. The unfinished elements add more life to the house and really make it stand apart from the competition.
