Drones are more than a little popular these days. Flying enthusiasts of all ages are getting into the act. Keep reading, to find out about one cool drone to consider (the good), one drone to avoid (the bad) and a bit about drone racing (the future). It might be just the adventure you’re looking for!
The Good: DJI Phantom 4 Drone
The DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter is widely considered to be the best drone manufacturer on the market. The Phantom 4 is just one of the models this company has to offer. It’s camera is capable of recording 4k video over a 28 minute flight time. It recharges and ready to fly again in 75 minutes.
This popular drone also has a collision avoidance system that forces it to come to a stop if it’s about to hit something, which makes it a great choice for amateur pilots and experienced fliers alike.
The Bad: Lily Drone
At first, the Lily drone seemed like it had a lot of promise. Lily Robotics raised $15 million for production, after showing off a prototype and accompanying video that seemed impressive. The drone was small, rugged and able to follow or orbit the user automatically. This happens to be a feature that most quadcopters come equipped with today.
In the three years since the video made its debut, Lily managed to take in $34 million in preorders. Unfortunately, the company recently folded and is facing several lawsuits. These lawsuits claim that the sequences in the video, those passed off as being shot with the Lily were actually filmed with a GoPro camera and manually operated DJI drone.
The Future: FPV Drone Racing
FPV (or first-person view) drone racing isn’t new. The sport has been around for a couple of years and continues to grow in popularity. In fact, leagues are starting to form, which cater to drone racing enthusiasts from all walks of life.
Each FPV drone has a camera mounted on its nose. Pilots wear special goggles that allow them see what the drone “sees.” Some of the race tracks are simple and wide-open, while others are filled with obstacles and tight corners. It all depends on league preference.
If you’re in search of an enjoyable hobby, why not consider investing in a drone? They’re available in many sizes. Pricing varies as well. In most cases, you don’t need to spend a fortune to have fun! But if you wish to make payments on a drone, you can buy drones now and pay later.
