When you flick through interior design magazines, it’s easy to feel like you need a massive budget to achieve any kind of beauty.
This simply isn’t true.
You can radically change any space with just a small budget and a little bit of ingenuity and understanding of how a space works.
If there is one thing that changes the whole feel of your bedroom it is the color scheme. Fortunately, this is also the easiest and cheapest thing to change. If you want a sneak peek at what designers will be using for their Spring/ Summer 2018 collections, the Pantone Color Trend Report is always a good place to look for inspiration.
This season, the palest pink is the go-to colour for bedrooms, offering warmth and softness to otherwise stark white walls. One of the best things about this color is that it is complementary to all sorts of other colors so you won’t have to change too much else in the room if you don’t have the budget.
Rethink Your Furniture
Another cheap thing you can do is rethink your bedroom furniture. This doesn’t necessarily mean buying completely new, you could simply rotate the room for a different effect or even change door handles and add a lick of paint to any wooden panels.
Pushing a single bed against a wall will give you more space and moving a double bed so that it sits off to one side will help too. You might think that a wardrobe is always the best solution for hanging clothes in a bedroom, but a clothes rail is a cheaper option. Just buy lots of identical hangers and then place your clothes in a rainbow of shades rather than a jumble to style it up.
Add in Small Details
If you have a neutral palette of color, then adding in small details will really lift the room and give it a more modern feel. Natural materials like wood, metallics and wool are all in at the moment, especially through the winter season. The cheapest details are usually in soft furnishings and here the word texture is all you need. A mixture of fabrics all in the same palette of colors feels like the ultimate luxury when done right and yet is actually very cheap to pull off.
While low hanging lights over your bedside table would be the ultimate in this seasons interior trend, you could always opt for a cheaper bedside light made of similar materials to achieve a similar look. Any cool lighting is going to make a real difference to how a room feels so think about where you want the light to fall, where you can make interesting shadows and how bright you want the lights to be.
With some thought and a few cheap additions or alterations, you can radically change how a room feels and modernize without spending a huge amount. A lot of great design comes down to understand the placement of things as much as the colors and textures in the room.
