My cousin makes her own homemade laundry detergent as she wrote about on the Star Tribune today. Her intention is to be more green, but after reading it, I'm thinking I will try to make some as well, but more so to save money. Here's the concoction:
Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe
- 1 cup Borax (I already have Borax as I tried that as one of my remedies for a washed-out cellphone; doesn't work, try rice instead)
- 1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (not the same as baking soda)
- 1 regular-size bar of soap with no added moisturizer (she suggests Fels-Naptha Soap) grated.

Mix ingredients together with a food processor (would a blender work?) to fine grind everything up. Use 2 Tablespoons per load of laundry. Sounds easy enough that even I could do it!

P.S. This is the same homemade laundry soap recipe that the Duggar's use to wash their brood of kids' clothes.
Anyone tried this? Or have different laundry soap recipes to share?
