It’s that time of the year and Apple is finally here with its new series of iPhone, the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro max. But now the question that pops in the mind of the consumers is that is it worth the upgrade? Well, as we know that even an upgrade or a purchase does costs a little hole in the pocket if not much depending also on your preference and the budget.

iPhone 12 Vs iPhone XR: Worth an Upgrade?

On the hindsight, with the release of new iPhone series we get to see a slight decrease in the prices of the iPhone released earlier. Not that we get to see much of a difference with every new release. So, here we bring you a comparison between iPhone 12 vs. iPhone XR. Go through the specifications, price range and other elements to decide if the new iPhone 12 is worth an upgrade.

The first and crucial aspect is to compare the specs of both the iPhone. This would help us to differentiate whether it is worth it or not.

The size of iPhone XR is 150.9 by 75.7 by 8.3mm (5.94 by 2.98 by 0.33 inches) while the iPhone 12 is smaller in size with measurements 138.4 by 67.3 by 7.3mm (5.45 by 2.65 by 0.29 inches). But the screen size of is same as both are 6.1 inches with iPhone XR having the IPS LCD lens while the iPhone 12 has OLED lens for richer experience.

Both the iPhone have IOS 14 operating system with 3 GB RAM each. Talking of the screen resolution, iPhone 12 is much higher with 2532 x 1170 pixel resolution (460 ppi) while the iPhone XR has 1792 x 828 pixel resolution (326 ppi).

After the comparison, it is visible that the difference between the two iPhone is not that wide, the processor and Camera as with every iPhone is updated this time as well. But when it comes to the visibility to the human eye, camera quality seems to be similar and hardly any difference can be traced. Moreover, a huge difference can be seen between iPhone 12 and iPhone XR, so if you are tight on budget you can definitely go for iPhone XR.

The screen size of iPhone 12 is same as iPhone XR that is 6.1 inches. The only difference between the two is that iPhone XR has a LCD screen while iPhone 12 uses OLED screen for better resolution and better visual experience. This OLED screen would provide greater pixel density as compared to iPhone XR, making the images sharp and clearer. Even with the availability of great iPhone 12 cases the back look can also be enhanced.

Now, when it comes to design, Apple brings back the most applauded and appreciated designs of the times, similar to the design of iPhone 4 with glass back and aluminum rounded sides.

While the design of the iPhone 4 has been there for a while now and did not witness any change. The iPhone XR had a strong body and according to Apple the change in design would lead to lesser number of broken screens and even iPhone XR protective covers are also available in the market for safety.

So, if you are a fan of the basic design then iPhone XR might seem like the right choice but if you loved the earlier designs then Apple definitely has something in store for you.

Moving on to the performance and the processor. Well, as mentioned earlier with every new release Apple makes sure that the processor is updated as well. With the release of iPhone 12, Apple also revealed that the new iPhone will have Apple A14 Bionic which is definitely a good look at future and would for sure lead to a better performance.

Talking of iPhone XR, the processor Apple A12 Bionic is quite powerful too. The performance as recorded by the consumers was smooth and hassle free. But yes, it was launched in 2018 and it has been two years. So this time Apple has definitely updated the processor finer performance.

The battery life of iPhone XR was similar to that other iPhone, workable for an entire day. But if the sources are to be believed, iPhone 12 would not have that great battery life due to additions of other elements.

Another negative point is that with iPhone 12, the consumers would not get a charger and earphones. So, if you buy the new iPhone you would have to buy a different charger for it that would be an added cost. The sole purpose of this move, according to Apple was to reduce the box size but the charger would come in another box, so this seems to be a complete fail.

While the iPhone XR has single rear camera with 12 megapixel, iPhone 12 will have a dual-wide and ultra-wide rear camera, both of them with 12 megapixel each. Another added feature is the night mode in iPhone 12 which is not available in iPhone XR, consumers would now be able to take good and clear pictures at night as well. If you think you could take good picture with your XR in low light as well, now you will be able to take better pictures with in low light with iPhone 12.

Now, speaking of the software, both the iPhone support the IOS 14. But yes, with the further updates your iPhone XR might face some issues.

As stated earlier, there is going to be a huge price difference between the two iPhone. While you can get iPhone XR at $499, you will be able to get the new iPhone 12 at $799. As the model variation would increase, so will the price of it. So, it depends on your budget as well.

Now, another special feature of iPhone 12 would be the capability of 5g network. It is a great advantage and would definitely give an edge, but for consumers in India 5g is still not introduced and might not find it so fascinating.

So, both the iPhone are worth it and we leave it up to you if you feel it is worth the upgrade.
