Types of air filters

Air filters remove dust, pollen, pet dander, and most of all, provide better air. They trap contaminants and expel fresh, clean air. With the array of filters, you may be wondering which one is the best for my home. We have given you some information on each one to help make your next purchase easier.

Pleated filters are often made from cotton or polyester, it’s important to check the number of pleats, the more pleats the better the filtration will be. This type is most effective at keeping out unwanted dust and contaminants.

Electrostatics can come in a washable version, it uses an electric charge to keep dust and other unwanted particles from entering your home.

Fiberglass filters are really useful for those whose main priority lies in keeping the HVAC safe and in working order.

Hepa Filters are essential for those suffering from allergies or respiratory difficulties, as they guarantee a 99.97% ability to screen contaminants.

Washable air filters are a good option as you just wash and put back. You must ensure that they are completely dry before putting back.

UV Filters fight against microorganisms which are potentially harmful to your health. Their ultraviolet rays work to kill bacteria and viruses throughout the home.

MERV Ratings for Homes

The minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) is the measurement for the quality of air filters. The higher the MERV the more filtered the air will be, as it is based on the efficiency of the filter and the effectiveness of purifying the air. MERV ranges from one to twenty. A rating of one to four will make certain that dust mites, pollen, and carpets fibers are filtered. A rating of five to eight ensures that most household issues are removed from the air. This includes dust, mold, pet dander, hair products, etc.

Homes should have a MERV eight as they pick up most pollutants from the indoor air. Also, it protects your HVAC against dust and breakages. Always make sure to not go for the cheapest option as this is something that protects all the family.

Reusable Filters vs. Disposable Filters

Reusable air filters do seem like a good option as you wash them and put them back. However, it is time-consuming, and you always have to remember when they need cleaning. They also have to sit and dry before placing back, meaning time where your air conditioning unit is off. Therefore, it can be quite a nuisance as you are not able to be comfortable while they are drying. There is also the added issue that mold and bacteria can build up if not cleaned well. However, disposable air filters are guaranteed to be clean every time. All you do is replace them, without worrying about all the hard work involved.

Filter Replacement by Mail

After you have done your grocery shop, picked up the kids, cleaned the house, and you still forgot air conditioning filters. Also, this is a way to keep track of when the filters need changing. You don’t have to think about when and how it will come because it’s already on your doorstep.
