Fix up the front
First impressions are everything, and the first thing a potential buyer sees when they open up your listing online or drive past your place is how it looks from the front. Give people a reason to stop and look closer by tidying up the front of your house. Keep the lawn weeded and mowed, and maybe even spring for a new paint job to spruce it up a bit. It won’t cost that much, and it could raise the number of prospective buyers, which in turn raises the amount you can get from your sale.
Put in new carpet
Dingy carpet can be unappealing to a buyer and make them reconsider the purchase because it seems like something that will take a lot of money and time to improve. However, carpet can be surprisingly cheap, and it will help your buyer fall for your house, giving you the liberty to ask for a fair price even in a buyer’s market such as this. Just be sure you pick a neutral tone so you avoid making the problem worse by picking something your prospective buyer hates, tainting the beauty of the rest of your house.
While your daughter may have loved her lime green room, it’s important to tone that down before you sell it. People prefer something that’s already of a style that appeals to them, so you want to avoid having a house that is too specific to your tastes when you are selling. A new coat of paint is the easiest way to fix this problem; use a light yellow or brown to give the house class and make it look brighter, or go with white if you want to make it a blank slate.
Clean it up
It’s amazing how much a good scrubbing can do to make a house beautiful. Walking through a dusty house with dirty tubs and toilets isn’t going to catch anybody’s eye, but a clean and fresh-looking place will give the buyer a feeling of well-being and make them look at the positives of the place instead.
