Here is another recipe from my favorite Christmas cookie and candy recipe collection. I may not be good at photography, but I am good at baking if I do say so myself.
Stained Glass Window Cookie Recipe
Just 3 simple ingredients:
- 1 – 12 oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips (do NOT use imitation chocolate chips)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine
- 1 – 10 oz bag colored marshmallows (generics are as good as Kraft)
Melt chocolate chips and margarine together in microwave (imitation chips do not play nice when trying to melt with margarine). Allow to cool a bit before folding in marshmallows as you don’t want marshmallows to melt. Lay out two spreads of wax paper and form two logs of mixture, wrapping the wax paper around them and twisting the ends (one is shown above in photo). Refrigerate until hard. Remove wax paper and cut into 1/2″ cookies.
Variations – Sprinkle shredded coconut and/or nuts on wax paper to stick to the edges. This was part of the original recipe from my mother, but I didn’t like the nuts part, and my kids don’t like coconut, so we modified and made the recipe even easier!
I personally don’t think these are best tasting item that I make for the holidays, but kids enjoy them, and they pretty up a plate of Christmas goodies quite nicely!
