Going on vacation is one of those things that you look forward to for weeks, sometimes months on end. They present you with the opportunity to take a break from your hectic life and recharge. Vacations are not without their stressful aspects, though. In fact, the most stressful part of your vacation might come at the very beginning with your trip to the airport.

Not only are airports crammed with other travelers all trying to get to their destinations as quickly as possible, but you generally spend a large amount of time waiting in long lines throughout the airport. Standing in lines isn’t exactly the relaxing start to your vacation that you want.

It is possible to cut down the time that you have to spend at the airport, though. To give yourself a less stressful start to your trip, here are a few things you can do to reduce your time at the airport.

Reserve Parking Ahead of Time

One aspect of arriving at the airport that not only takes up a fair amount of time, but that also costs more than you would expect, is airport parking. Especially during peak tourist times, parking lots near the airport can get incredibly full. Even if a sign indicates that there are a few spaces left in a certain lot, you will likely be driving around in circles for a while trying to find one.

Save yourself the time and hassle by reserving a parking space online before you get to the airport. You will be able to park in a secure lot and then ride a shuttle to the terminal entrance if necessary. Search for the right parking lot based on the airport you are flying out of. For instance, airport parking Atlanta can be just a click away.

Only Pack Carry-Ons

Another line that you will have to wait in upon arriving at the airport is the bag-check line. If you aren’t planning to be on vacation for more than a week or two, you should see if it is possible to limit your luggage to carry-on only. In this way, you can avoid this line altogether. It might a bit of a challenge, especially if you aren’t used to packing light for trips, but by using space-saving techniques you can cut down the amount of luggage you need to bring.

Consider TSA Pre-Check

The most stressful line that awaits you at the airport is probably the security line. Not only can this be incredibly long, but making sure that you follow all guidelines by removing shoes and certain items from your luggage can add even more time to your security check experience.

TSA offers the ability to register for pre-check for a fee. By taking this measure you can significantly reduce the time that you are at the security checkpoint. It isn’t available at all airports, though, so make sure to check beforehand if it will be worth doing.
