In the festive season, things tend to get very expensive very fast! However, there is no need to go through your life savings to have an enjoyable Christmas. In fact, there are plenty of things that you can save on, leaving you enough money left over to spend a little more on the things that truly matter and will last a lifetime.

Keep reading to find out more.

Save on Christmas Gifts

I think spending a decent amount of money on gifts for your loved ones is acceptable at Christmas. However, if you find yourself paying out hundreds of dollars for gifts given to those outside your immediate family, it can end up breaking the bank. Instead, a much better idea is to put together gift baskets from items that you can find at the dollar store.

The good news is that you can discover some wonderful things there, such as higher-end chocolates, cute Xmas signs, and even sweet vintage style mugs. Then all you need to do is add a few sachets of hot chocolate, some coffee, and some candy canes (also from the dollar store) to create an attractive high-end gift for a low price.

Spend on Your Tree

Now, you may wonder why I'm advising you to spend your hard-earned money on your Christmas tree when there are so many DIYs for decorations out there. It is because by investing in the basics now like a good fake tree and decorations, they will last you a lifetime.

Yes, that does mean that you don't get to change your whole theme or color scheme each year. However, you can invest in one or two quality pieces each Christmas season to add some novelty.

Apart from a good quality tree (one that should be bought in the sales post Christmas the year before where possible), it is also worth your while to spend on items like this hand made Amish Baskets tree skirt and some quality shatterproof glass baubles. Be sure you invest in some Christmas tree and decoration storage as well, as this will help you keep your items in mint condition so they can be used again and again.

However, when it comes to things like tinsel, ribbon, and other decor, you can pick these up from the dollar store each year, and they shouldn't cost you much at all.

Save on Christmas Clothing

It certainly can be a lot of fun to have novelty Christmas clothing items for the whole family to wear on December the 24th and 25th. The problem is that good quality Christmas jumpers can cost a small fortune!

Happily, there is a way that you can still stay in the festive spirit and save money -it's buying your Christmas clothing secondhand. You can even do this online now, which is good news for 2020 and the probable lockdowns that are on their way.

Of course, if you feel crafty, you can always invest in a plain jumper or dress and add your own festive embellishments. Again, to save money here, I would head back to the dollar store to get your Christmas embellishments a bargain price.
