16 Websites to Sell Books for Cash

Share on TwitterShare on TumblrSubmit to StumbleUponShare via email

When I moved into my new house four years ago, many totes ended up in a basement storage room. I recently found six totes full of just books (most of them were free books I’ve acquired)!  I figured since they haven’t been read (or even thought of) in four years that I could get rid of them. I know that books don’t sell well at garage sales, so I originally planned to sell them all on Half.com*.  But the problem with that is they may not sell so you are stuck at storing (and remembering where they are) when and if they do sell.

So I was extremely happy to find places online that buy your books.  You simply enter the ISBN number of each book. If they are accepting your book, they will give you an instant price quote. Print a free postage paid label (so you never have to pay for the postage).  Send in and get paid! I have personally used all of the following (as each one accepts different books, or one may offer a higher payout than the other):

  1. Amazon – Accepts Textbooks Only. Pays in Gift Certificates.
  2. Better World Books
  3. Bookbyte
  4. CampusBooksCompares Buyback Prices at various sites
  5. Cash4Books
  6. Chegg
  7. eCampus
  8. GlydeProvides pre-stamped packaging
  9. Powell’s Books – Pays via PayPal or Store Credit
  10. SellBackBooks.com – Pays via Check or Direct Deposit
  11. SellBackYourBook.com – Pays quickly! I have gotten three checks from them already within a week of sending in my books!
  12. TextbookLink
  13. TextbooksRus
  14. WeBuyTextBooks
  15. * eBay.com
  16. * Half.com

I would suggest (I wish I would have done this first) to make a spreadsheet or even just a list in Notepad of all the ISBN numbers of the books you want to sell.  That way you can just copy and paste the list into each of the different websites for quotes on which books each will buy.

*The books that were not accepted at any of the places above, I did list on Half.com and my daughter, Tatym has been alphabetizing them for me as seen above.  I set my price to be the lowest for a better chance of selling (see my current half.com listings), and we have sold an average of three to four every day so far.

I have even listed groups of children’s books on eBay.com, such as all Pokemon, Barbie, Barney, etc. (see my current ebay listings) with good success.  There is no charge to list your items if the starting price is under $1.  So I start my auction listings out at 99¢!

I have been saving all of the padded mailers and small boxes I receive in the mail (from free samples and such) to reuse for packing the books. I print my shipping labels (with postage) directly on half sheet shipping labels which makes it fast and easy.  Tip – if the book is lightweight, it may be cheaper to send it First Class instead of using the Media Mail rate (plus your recipient will receive it faster)!

Anyone have any additional resources for selling books online?

I just signed up with sellbackyourbooks.com and the accepted 2 of DH’s textbooks. My total is $58. I tried to print the FEDEX label but it is giving me an error code, has this ever happened to you?

Hi Lori, I’ve never tried to print a FedEx label. I always print a USPS Media Mail label – it’s a PDF. Sorry I couldn’t help you!

so you get the $ within a week of mailing your books? The media mail says it takes 7-21 days to get to them and their qoutes are only good for 10 days. I assume they pay you once they get the books.

They must send a check the same day they receive your books. It only took a few days for my media mail to reach them (they send an email when they receive your package).

You can make quick money by selling your books to mybookbank.com. They give you more cash than the other sites out there. All orders receive a free FedEx shipping label. It’s quick and easy.

I usually sell at Half.com, because they pay so much better than Amazon.
Do any of the other sites pay better percentages than half.com?

I sell my used books and textbooks to http://www.MyBookCart.com. They offer free shipping and pay fast by check or PayPal.

A really good resource for selling books for cash online. Have tried selling at Amazon but I think they are book pirates when it comes to used books and ebay is such a huge time waster.
