When you buy from a small business, you are not helping a CEO buy a third vacation home. You are helping a little girl get dance lessons, a little boy get his team jersey, a mom put food on the table, a dad pay a mortgage or student pay for college.
American Express deemed today to be Small Business Saturday and encouraged everyone to show their love at a small businesses near you. But I don't think we should just just show our love today, but everyday, or as frequently as possible. Living in a small town, I know first hand how important this is.
Did you also realize that not all small business are brick and mortar stores? Some small businesses are actually online based. A great example is VisibleInterest.com – Sue Kunze owns this small online business that is actually made up of more small businesses: eighteen independent designers that create beautiful modern jewelry. They are currently offering 15% off your total order with Code: SHOPSMALL2015 through Tuesday, December 1st to encourage you to “shop small”.
I, myself, am also self-employed, and my websites (yes, this very one you are reading) contribute to my income. Every time you shop at an online store through my link, I earn a commission at no extra cost to you. See list of all stores here. So thank you, my dear readers, for supporting me (and helping me put food on the table)!
