This cream puff dessert is my absolute favorite dessert recipe to make (and eat), and my family requests that I make it for many get-togethers!
Cream Puff Dessert Recipe
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup flour
- 4 eggs
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese
- 2 small boxes instant vanilla pudding
- 3 cups milk
- 1 container whipped topping
- chocolate syrup (optional)
Boil margarine and water. Remove from heat, stir in flour and cool. With mixer, add eggs, one at the time. Spread in a greased 9×13 pan.
Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool.
Mix softened cream cheese, pudding and milk.
Spread over pastry. Spread whipped topping over pudding mixture. Drizzle chocolate syrup on top to pretty it up. Enjoy!
Tips / Variations
You may mix/match any pudding flavors, but french vanilla pudding is my favorite.
Instead of chocolate syrup, you can also use chocolate sprinkles and/or chopped nuts on top of the whipping topping or leave plain (which is my favorite).
Also, with my new convention oven, I only had to bake the cream puff crust for 15 minutes.
When mixing the pudding/cream cheese mixture with milk, it may get a little messy. I remember using my Sunbeam mixer and having batter all over the place! My cousin, Shauna, came up with a solution though! She hangs a kitchen towel up from her cupboards to catch the splatters. Now that I have a Kitchenaid mixer, I don't have any splatters!

Some call this cream puff recipe “Moon Cake” as seen in Shauna's church cookbook. My god-daughter, Merin, actually requested cream puff dessert for her birthday this year!
