When our family gets together, I'm usually asked to bring a dessert (since I'm better at baking than cooking). Cream Puff Dessert is my favorite dessert recipe to make, but if I'm short on time, Jello Cake is fast and easy (and delicious) to make!
White Cake Mix (baked according to directions on box)
1 1/2 cups Water
One Small Box Jell-O Gelatin
8 oz Cool Whip
- Bake white cake mix according to directions on box.
- Poke holes in baked white cake. I use a serving fork, but you can use a knife as well. You can do this while the cake is still warm or wait until it is cooled, your choice.
- Boil one cup water.
- Add one small box Jell-O gelatin. Any brand/flavor/color of gelatin works. I prefer “red” (i.e. strawberry, raspberry and cherry flavors) as I think they taste the best and are the prettiest.
- Stir until dissolved.
- Add 1/2 cup cold water.
- Pour mixture over cake.
- Cool in fridge.
- Frost with one container Cool Whip (or any brand whipped topping).
Different flavors of cake mix can be substituted. We'd used Funfetti, Yellow, Strawberry and Cherry Chip.
My mom had made this Jell-O cake, shown above, using a gluten-free white cake mix, and I couldn't tell the difference, unlike the gluten-free blueberry muffins that we taste tested that same day!
Using pink Jell-O or blue Jell-O for your Jello poke cake would be a great idea for a gender reveal party!
